Byrne Wallace Shields forms new sports law group
Byrne Wallace Shields established a sports law division under former Ireland rugby player Peter McKenna, who serves as a partner at the Dublin firm. The practice will counsel athletes, governing bodies, event organizers, brands, and technology companies about contracts, governance rules, image rights, data protection, and commercial agreements. McKenna said Ireland’s sports industry faces fresh legal and business challenges that demand specialized guidance to help clients succeed.
Managing partner Feargal Brennan noted the firm can deploy resources from its recent combination to support sports organizations in this developing field. Byrne Wallace Shields was formed in January through Ireland’s largest legal merger, combining ByrneWallace and LK Shields Solicitors. The merged entity employs 430 people across its operations.
