Modi touts $8bn push for India green shipping
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that the nation holds strategic advantages through its expanding industrial capacity and upgraded maritime infrastructure. The leader referenced an article by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal that describes an 8 billion dollar government investment to transform shipbuilding and ocean transport operations. The minister wrote that India can guide worldwide adoption of environmentally sustainable shipping methods as financial institutions shift resources toward vessels that produce no carbon emissions.
The country maintains some of the planet’s most affordable renewable power costs and has modernized port facilities along major commercial shipping lanes. The 69,725 crore rupee funding program represents more than standard budget allocation and demonstrates a commitment to leadership in reduced-emission maritime commerce. Officials emphasized how climate regulations are tightening and technology advances create conditions favorable for Indian participation in the transformation of global shipping practices.
