Bikita Minerals powers up with $22M investment
Bikita Minerals invested 22 million dollars to expand electricity access for operations and nearby communities in Zimbabwe’s Bikita district. The lithium producer, owned by China’s Sinomine Group, allocated 20 million dollars for a 132-kilovolt transmission line spanning 112 kilometers from Mashava, while directing 2 million dollars toward rural electrification in Bikita, Gutu, and Zaka. Company spokesman Collen Nikisi said the power project should finish by December.
The firm drilled 38 water wells across Masvingo province and built two primary school classroom blocks with staff housing at Zvido and Sanangwe schools. Bikita Minerals funded a $1 million medical facility and provides nutritional drinks to more than 5,000 students at 12 schools. Officials from Domboshava Primary School reported that the food program has improved student attendance since it began in 2022, following the company’s identification of high dropout rates.
