Burkina Faso ministry, RTB deploy AI for local-language broadcasts
Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Digital Transition, Posts, and Electronic Communications has partnered with Radio and Television of Burkina to integrate artificial intelligence into public broadcasting. Minister Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabane and RTB Director General Atéridar Galip Some signed the agreement on Monday, October 21, 2025. The collaboration aims to improve information delivery and expand content access for all citizens, regardless of language or literacy levels.
The initiative focuses on making public communications available in local languages for non-French speakers. Experts from the Interdisciplinary Center for Artificial Intelligence for Development at the Virtual University of Burkina demonstrated a translation tool that converts Mooré to French and back. RTB plans to use AI for creating local media content, such as Burkinabe cartoons and culturally relevant programs. The government will host a national AI conference on Monday, October 28, 2025, as part of its broader digital transformation strategy.
