CBN, Angola central banks ink tech swap deal
Nigeria and Angola signed an agreement to share banking expertise at the International Monetary Fund meetings in Washington. Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Olayemi Cardoso and Bank of Angola Governor Manuel Anthonio Tiago Dias announced the arrangement, which covers the supervision of financial institutions and the exchange of cybersecurity data. The pact establishes a framework for both nations to collaborate on banking oversight, anti-money laundering efforts, and the management of foreign reserves.
The memorandum covers payment systems, currency control, and economic research between the two African institutions. Both governors said the partnership will help strengthen their ability to regulate cross-border banks and coordinate responses to financial threats. The agreement also addresses license approvals and plans for handling troubled banks that operate across borders. Officials expect mutual benefits from sharing technical knowledge and coordinating banking policies.
