CRFFN and CIB sign MoU for Nigeria port transparency
Nigeria’s Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding and the Convention on Business Integrity have partnered to eliminate unreceipted fees and enhance transparency throughout the country’s port and logistics operations. The agreement, formalized in Lagos with Maritime Anti-Corruption Network participation, will introduce proven international reporting systems allowing immediate documentation of delays and improper payment demands across cargo movement channels.
CRFFN Registrar Igwe Kingsley Onyekechi indicated the collaboration supports federal efficiency reforms while benefiting importers, exporters, terminal operators, and government bodies through real-time challenge resolution. CIB co-founder Olusoji Apampa noted the initiative extends marine-side gains to land corridors where freight forwarders encounter numerous informal charges, with training and complaint mechanisms to ensure implementation. Since most goods consumed domestically enter through ports, reducing hidden costs should lower retail prices for consumers.
