EACOP, Schneider Electric team up with NVTC on skills training
A vocational training institution in Uganda has entered a new agreement with the East African Crude Oil Pipeline project and Schneider Electric Uganda to provide specialized training in electrical and telecommunications fields.
Nakawa Vocational Training College will receive modern equipment and industry expertise to prepare its students and instructors for work in the expanding oil and gas sector. The arrangement enables trainees to gain practical experience in industrial automation, electrical systems and project management while opening doors to internships and potential employment. More than 100 recent graduates have already received training through the pipeline initiative, with some opportunities leading to jobs. National Content Capacity Building Lead Natasha Kassami said the program helps bridge classroom learning with real-world applications in major infrastructure development.
College officials view the partnership as a significant step toward reducing youth unemployment through technical education. Schneider Electric plans to replicate this model at additional institutions across Uganda as part of a broader workforce development strategy. The collaboration supports the pipeline company’s commitment to building local expertise and ensuring Ugandan communities gain direct benefits from the country’s emerging petroleum industry.
