Namibia exports N$100m charcoal as deficit shrinks
Namibia shipped charcoal valued at N$100 million during September, with Dutch, South African and Polish buyers accounting for most purchases. The southern African nation, meanwhile, imported N$1 million in charcoal from Malaysia, according to trade figures the Namibia Statistical Agency released on Tuesday.
Statistician general Alex Shimuafeni reported the country posted a N$3.4 billion trade gap for the month, narrowing from the N$5.3 billion shortfall recorded in August. The September deficit also improved compared with the N$5.7 billion imbalance from the same period a year earlier. South Africa remained the primary partner for both incoming and outgoing commerce.
Shimuafeni noted that uranium, diamonds, non-monetary gold and nickel concentrates dominated outbound shipments as mining commodities continued driving export activity.
