NBU Youth Centre hands over tools to empower Ghanaian youth
A youth training center in Ghana distributed business equipment worth more than 200,000 cedis to 52 graduates during its third annual ceremony held on Wednesday at Aboabo School Park in Asokore Mampong Municipality. The No Business as Usual Youth Empowerment Centre provided sewing machines, industrial ovens and other tools to help participants establish enterprises in fashion, baking and beauty services. Since launching in October 2022 with support from SOS Children’s Villages The Netherlands, the program has prepared 234 young people for employment and self-employment.
Programme Director Bernard Amoako from SOS Children’s Villages Kumasi said the equipment represents an opportunity for economic independence. Women received 48 of the 52 starter kits distributed this year, reflecting the center’s focus on gender parity. Previously, 94 trainees obtained similar resources to begin their own businesses. The event featured breast cancer education and free screening services through collaboration with municipal health officials.
Managing Director Arian Buurman from SOS Children’s Villages The Netherlands praised graduates for completing their coursework and encouraged measured growth strategies. She told reporters the Ghanaian implementation team demonstrated strong capability. National Director Alexander Mar Kekula thanked the Netherlands partners for sustained funding that enabled skills development across multiple cohorts.
