Google admits Tensor G5 GPU troubles
Google pledged to enhance graphics performance on Pixel 10 smartphones through regular software updates after users reported overheating issues with the Tensor G5 processor. The company told Android Authority that monthly and quarterly system patches would address driver quality issues affecting the chip’s Imagination Technologies GPU. Benchmark tests show the IMG DXT-48-1536 graphics processor achieves only 40 percent of the performance delivered by competing chips from MediaTek. Google must coordinate with Imagination Technologies for major driver improvements because the British firm controls the underlying code, limiting what adjustments the search giant can implement independently through power management changes.
