GTA VI delayed to November 2026 for more polish
A new release date places Grand Theft Auto VI on Nov. 19, 2026, according to Rockstar Games, moving the launch from a previously scheduled May date. The change pushes the title more than a year beyond the studio’s initial 2025 target and about six months past the earlier timetable. The company said additional development time is necessary to meet player expectations for quality, and it offered no further details. Strauss Zelnick, chief executive of Take-Two Interactive, said he is confident Rockstar is on track and supports the revised timetable.
Promotional footage has revealed parts of the game since Dec. 2023, when the first trailer set Vice City as the setting and introduced two protagonists. A second trailer in May 2025 broadened the map and showcased cars and gameplay elements inspired by social platforms, arriving shortly after the first announced delay. Industry observers note Rockstar delayed Red Dead Redemption 2 multiple times before its release, a pattern that helped the studio raise standards for narrative and technical polish. The developer plans releases on PlayStation 6, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and the later date may bring additional previews and gameplay updates next year.
