IEC Telecom launches Garmin-powered aid worker tracker
IEC Telecom introduced tracking tools for humanitarian workers at AIDEX. Nearly 230 aid staff died in the first half of 2025, more than any full year from 1997 to 2022. The company launched equipment built around the Garmin GPSMAP H1i Plus handheld GPS device with satellite connectivity beyond cell tower range.
The Traksat platform manages devices across organizations with geofencing alerts and mission checklists. Gwenael Loheac, president for Europe and West Africa at IEC Telecom Group, said the system gives managers visibility over remote personnel and enables emergency responses. Aid groups increasingly work with local partners rather than international staff because of budget cuts. The tracking system helps headquarters monitor dispersed teams and maintain safety standards.
