Digital Telecom, Datel deploy satellite monitoring across Africa
Digital Telecom partnered with Datel to bring satellite monitoring and digital land management systems to African governments. The Estonia-based geospatial technology firm will help authorities modernize property records, find unregistered buildings and track unlicensed mining operations. The electronic cadastral platform connects tax collection, property registration and national databases into one system.
Satellite imagery identifies undeclared structures that should generate tax revenue. Algete in Spain found over 300 hidden buildings and 150 pools with this technology. Digital Telecom CEO Simplice Anoh said the tools will help governments recover lost income and reinvest funds in public services. Datel CEO Urmas Kõlli noted that Estonia’s digital governance experience guides the African deployment.
