iFixit reveals M5 MacBook Pro’s tough repairability
iFixit released its teardown analysis of Apple’s M5 MacBook Pro and assigned the laptop a repairability rating of 4 out of 10. The device contains a 72.6-watt-hour battery pack that proves difficult to replace because technicians must remove multiple internal parts to access it. Apple’s updated repair documentation advises disconnecting the Battery Management System cable first to prevent electrical shorts.
The logic board must be removed before workers can swap most internal hardware components. Screen replacement requires removing the antenna bracket to reach the small screws underneath. The trackpad no longer blocks access to battery removal tabs as it did in previous models. The M5 MacBook Pro scored lower than the M4 MacBook Air, which earned 5 out of 10 points for repairability. Recent testing showed the M5 model’s single fan and heat pipe struggled with intensive workloads but kept temperatures slightly lower than the M4 version.
