India bets future on science push for Viksit Bharat
Scientific advancement and materials development form essential foundations for India’s development goals through 2047, according to N. Kalaiselvi, who directs the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. Speaking on Wednesday at a technical program during the third day of the Empowering Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave 2025 held in New Delhi, she outlined how the nation has progressed in advanced manufacturing and materials science.
Kalaiselvi told attendees that discoveries in clean power, biological sciences and new technologies will determine the nation’s economic path forward. She noted that CSIR and leading Indian research organizations are building the groundwork for technological independence and innovation-focused growth. Former President Giridhar Udapi Rao Kulkarni of JNCASR in Bengaluru described the global shift from basic elements toward precisely engineered structures designed for specific functions. He stated that semiconductors, composite materials and intelligent polymers enable new applications while transforming India from outdated thinking toward technological sophistication.
The gathering attracted more than 3,000 attendees from universities, laboratories, corporations and government agencies, along with Nobel Prize recipients and senior researchers. The conclave operates under the concept of Imagine, Innovate, Inspire while exploring how cutting-edge technologies shape national progress.
