Intel hunts TSMC veteran for foundry revival
Intel pursues former Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company senior vice president Wei-Jen Lo to lead its foundry research division, according to Taiwan Economic Daily. Lo retired from TSMC in July 2025 and remains bound by a two-year noncompete agreement that blocks employment at competing firms like Intel.
The executive spent 18 years at Intel before joining TSMC, where he oversaw the adoption of extreme ultraviolet lithography and the development of the 2-nanometer process. His move to Intel could face resistance from Taiwanese authorities, though United States officials may intervene if chief executive Lip-Bu Tan makes a formal offer.
Neither company has confirmed recruitment discussions. The potential hire signals Intel’s strategy to attract experienced professionals as it rebuilds semiconductor manufacturing capabilities under new leadership.
