Jones Day hires Christine Tran to boost Sydney disputes practice
Jones Day hired class action defense attorney Christine Tran from Herbert Smith Freehills to strengthen its Sydney disputes team. Tran earned a partnership at HSF Kramer in 2020 and brings rare trial experience defending both shareholder and product liability class actions in Australian courts.
The appointment follows the September departure of Melbourne partner Daniel Moloney to Gilbert and Tobin. Tran led the defense team that won Crowley v Worley Limited in 2020, marking the first shareholder class action defeat for plaintiffs in the Australian federal court.
The American firm operates 110 legal professionals across four Australian cities as of September. Jones Day added corporate partners Charles Bogle and James Wood from Hogan Lovells in January before that firm closed its Sydney location.
Sydney office leader Chris Ahern said Tran’s judgment and corporate litigation record will benefit clients immediately. The firm plans to announce three Melbourne disputes partners from Corrs.
