Kenya pushes for Africa’s digital future at Luanda summit
Kenya emphasized regional technology cooperation during meetings at a summit in Angola focused on financing continental infrastructure improvements. John Kipchumba Tanui, principal secretary for the State Department of ICT and Digital Economy, attended discussions examining investment approaches for expanding internet access, government digital platforms and telecommunications networks across African nations. Officials examined strategies for deploying fiber systems, establishing data centers and creating internet exchange points through partnerships between public agencies and commercial enterprises.
Kenya and Angola agreed to expedite the implementation of an information technology cooperation agreement during talks involving Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, Angola’s telecommunications minister and Kenyan Ambassador Joyce Khasimwa M’maitsi. The memorandum addresses satellite infrastructure, cybersecurity measures, technology training programs and extending connectivity to remote communities. Direct air service between Nairobi and Luanda will support expanded commerce and professional exchanges, with Kenyan workers in Angola identifying opportunities in financial technology, logistics and consulting sectors.
Representatives from the African Union Development Agency, African Development Bank, World Bank and commercial firms participated in the gathering. Tanui said Kenya remains committed to working with Angola and neighboring countries on building technology systems that drive economic growth across the continent.
