Kenyans abroad to access new medical insurance cover
Kenyans abroad will access medical coverage for relatives at home through a partnership unveiled on Monday in Nairobi. Kenya Diaspora Alliance joined with Bupa Global Kenya, Kenbright and Jubilee Health Insurance to create the program that eliminates emergency health payments sent across borders.
Jubilee handles domestic treatment while Bupa manages overseas care. Kenbright coordinates benefits between the two providers to ensure continuous service for families separated by geography. The alliance represents more than 300,000 citizens working in the United States, Germany, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Tanzania and Canada.
Remittances from workers abroad exceed earnings from traditional exports such as tea and coffee. Alliance officials want families to redirect emergency medical funds toward insurance premiums that support economic development. The program marks an advancement in cross-border insurance products serving thousands of households with international connections.
