Liberty Mutual hunts $600k lost cargo haul
Liberty Mutual has filed a lawsuit seeking $600,000 after audio equipment went missing during a move from Italy to Massachusetts. The insurer sued ALPI U.S.A. and Albini & Pitigliani in federal court, claiming the freight companies lost or allowed thieves to steal the cargo after it reached Kennedy International Airport in New York. The shipment left Firenze in good condition on July 25 and was handed to a trucking company to finish the journey to Randolph.
The complaint accuses the defendants of hiring careless subcontractors and failing to protect the goods. Liberty Mutual paid K-Array USA $600,000 for the missing equipment and wants that money back with interest. The case relies on the Montreal Convention for international air transport and the Carmack Amendment for interstate shipping rules. All claims remain unproven as the lawsuit advances through early court proceedings.
