Lokpobiri reaffirms Nigeria’s oil sector transparency
Nigeria’s petroleum minister reaffirmed government’s dedication to merit-based project approvals during ceremonies marking the departure of Oriental Energy Resources Limited’s EMEM floating production vessel for the Okwok Field offshore development. Senator Heineken Lokpobiri told attendees that compliance with regulations rather than personal relationships determines approval outcomes, noting he met the company chairman for the first time at the event despite authorizing the project.
The vessel launch represents progress toward sustainable crude oil production increases while generating revenue for national programs, according to a statement from the minister’s media office. Company chairman Mohammed Indimi credited federal authorities for supporting independent field development initiated in 2022 without requiring personal connections.
Lokpobiri praised the indigenous operator’s contribution to energy security and local content objectives as the installation advances broader goals for sustainable growth and value creation across Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
