Lu of Magalu tops TikTok virtual influencer earnings with $2.5 million haul
Artificial intelligence characters on TikTok generate millions in revenue for companies that control their digital personas. Brazilian retail mascot Lu of Magalu earned an estimated 2.5 million dollars last year through 74 sponsored advertisements. Analytics firm Kapwing calculated earnings based on follower counts and typical Instagram advertising rates.
Virtual performers crossed into mainstream entertainment through collaborations with human artists. Lu partnered with Brazilian singer Anitta on a music video that let viewers purchase featured clothing through a shopping application. Other digital personalities like Lil Miquela release songs with real producers and have accumulated over 3.4 million platform followers.
Japanese virtual singers operate under established music labels. Rim has been working with Kamitsubaki Studio, combining anime styles with pop music since its debut in 2021. Hatsune Miku joined TikTok in 2020 and shares fan performances on her official account after two decades as a digital pop star.
