M6 iPad Pro to feature vapor chamber cooler for better performance
Apple plans to install vapor chamber cooling systems in its next-generation iPad Pro models with M6 processors, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman wrote in his newsletter. The company added the technology to iPhone 17 Pro devices but skipped the current M5 iPad Pro lineup, which relies on graphene sheets and aluminum casings to manage heat.
The cooling upgrade would allow the M6 chip to maintain higher performance when running demanding applications and games. Current M5 tablets use fewer processor cores than MacBook Pro models, partly due to thermal constraints in the thin designs.
The vapor chamber represents a shift from an optional feature to a requirement as Apple silicon grows more powerful. Whether the cooling system forces Apple to increase tablet thickness remains unclear, Gurman noted.
