Man sues after protest with Vader theme song
A Washington resident has sued after authorities detained him for following troops with a speaker blaring the Darth Vader theme song. Sam O’Hara launched the satirical demonstration to protest President Donald Trump’s National Guard deployment in the capital, with his videos gaining millions of views online.
An Ohio National Guard member summoned police, leading to O’Hara being handcuffed for up to 20 minutes and forced to end his peaceful demonstration. Court documents filed in federal court argue officials violated constitutional protections against restricting free speech and conducting baseless arrests.
O’Hara seeks compensation from the guard member, four officers, and the District of Columbia authorities. His legal filing states modern constitutional law prohibits government agents from suppressing nonviolent protests, unlike practices that might have been accepted in distant times and places.
