Namibia’s government assets valued at N$47.4 billion
The government holds property worth 47.4 billion Namibian dollars across roughly 9,640 locations, the transport and public works minister told lawmakers. Veikko Nekundi described the asset inventory as a document that changes regularly as authorities buy and sell buildings in line with service requirements.
The centralized tracking system monitors categories that range from land parcels to medical facilities and educational buildings. Officials follow procurement laws from 2015 when acquiring property and apply financial regulations from 1991 when selling assets. Treasury approval and independent appraisals protect the state from paying excessive prices or accepting inadequate sale terms.
Nekundi answered questions from McHenry Venaani about the scope of government holdings. The minister emphasized that the total reflects current records rather than a final count, as transactions continue throughout the year.
