New footage emerges of pepper spray incident at Turnstile concert
A sheriff’s deputy pepper-sprayed a 15-year-old attendee at a Turnstile concert in Richmond one month ago. Body camera recordings obtained by CBS 6 from Sheriff Antionette Irving show no warning was given before the chemical agent was deployed. The teenager described feeling a burning sensation and losing vision after being hit while near the stage.
Bassist Franz Lyons used the minor’s phone to contact the father and guide him to his son. Security personnel and band members told officers the incident violated the venue’s established safety protocols. Multiple witnesses stated that the crowd posed no threat that would justify the use of force.
Video evidence suggests the deputy may have been unaware that fans were invited onstage during the performance. One witness told officers the deputy claimed the pepper spray accidentally discharged while the safety pin was removed. The investigation remains active with disciplinary action reported.
