Nigeria finalizes gender policy to boost inclusivity in agriculture
Nigeria is advancing toward a more inclusive agricultural sector with the final validation of the Revised National Gender Policy in Agriculture and its Strategic Action Plan (2025–2030). The updated policy aims to close gender gaps, strengthen women’s roles, and promote social justice across the agrifood system.
The revised policy was developed through consultations across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, addressing issues like gender-based violence and the specific needs of youth and vulnerable groups. It aligns with national agricultural frameworks and aims to ensure gender equality, fair resource access, and targeted interventions for women and youth. The policy will soon be presented to the National Council on Agriculture for final approval, marking a significant step toward transforming Nigeria’s agricultural landscape.
