NuScale Power hires James Canafax as CLO
NuScale Power Corporation appointed James Canafax as chief legal officer three months after Shahram Ghasemian assumed the position, and Canafax later resigned to pursue other opportunities. Canafax previously served as general counsel and chief compliance officer at Maritime Partners and brings nuclear industry expertise to the Oregon-based small modular reactor developer.
The executive will oversee legal, compliance, governance and business development matters at the company, which designs reactor units generating 77 megawatts of electricity each. President John Hopkins said Canafax’s regulatory knowledge and experience guiding organizations through expansion phases made him a good fit for the role at a pivotal time.
Canafax worked at Maritime Partners for 18 months before his departure last year. His career includes general counsel positions at Gravity, BWX Technologies, and Babcock & Wilcox, plus eight years as assistant general counsel at McDermott International, starting in 1996 with Jones Walker.
