NVIDIA cuts supply of 8 GB RTX 5060 Ti as 16 GB model thrives
Nvidia told graphics card manufacturers to reduce shipments of the 8-gigabyte GeForce RTX 5060 Ti after weak sales left excess inventory at retailers, according to Board Channels reports. The company wants partners to prioritize the 16-gigabyte model, which sells for $70 more but attracts stronger demand from buyers seeking better performance in memory-intensive games.
The 8-gigabyte card struggles against the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT, which offers 16 gigabytes at the same $300 price point. Current video games at 1440p resolution frequently require more than 8 gigabytes of memory, pushing customers toward higher-capacity options despite the additional cost.
Board partners hold substantial stocks of the 8-gigabyte variant that Nvidia wants cleared through controlled distribution rather than price cuts below the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. The supply restrictions aim to balance inventory levels with actual market preferences as the RTX 50 series reaches stable availability across retail channels.
