Phil Spencer discusses Xbox’s growth in Japan
Microsoft Gaming Chief Executive Phil Spencer told Famitsu that Xbox platform usage in Japan increased 20 percent over the past year. The growth spans console, personal computer and cloud gaming, with much of the expansion attributed to the rising PC market in the region. Spencer discussed plans to deliver more content for Japanese players through partnerships with developers such as Capcom, Square Enix, Sega, Bandai Namco Entertainment and Konami.
The executive confirmed a new Xbox console remains under development without providing specific details. Microsoft seeks to strengthen its position in Japan after a historically weak performance in the market. The company set Forza Horizon 6 in Japan and published Ninja Gaiden 4 to appeal to regional audiences.
