PTI Effurun urges Africa to keep oil reserves
The Petroleum Training Institute in Effurun has cautioned African nations against rapid divestment from fossil fuel resources. Dr. Samuel Onoji, the institution’s principal and chief executive, said the continent holds 125 billion barrels of crude oil and more than 600 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. He urged governments to invest in research for environmentally sustainable extraction methods, noting that global fossil fuel demand will persist for five decades.
Onoji addressed journalists at a conference on hydrocarbon science and technology in Abuja. The institute has reduced natural gas flaring to below 7 percent through field utilization and liquefied natural gas processing. The research division is developing carbon credit systems and emission reduction technologies to support cleaner operations.
