Report finds Nigerians trust ride-hailing safety
Research commissioned by transportation platform Bolt indicates that 81 percent of Nigerian travelers consider app-based mobility services the safest option among available transport alternatives, according to findings from survey firm Ipsos covering Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Ibadan. Nearly all participants reported selecting digital ride platforms when public transit appears hazardous, particularly for nighttime journeys or unfamiliar destinations, while 94 percent arranged trips for relatives to guarantee secure arrivals.
Women comprise 70 percent of ride-hailing customers in Nigeria, with users aged 25 to 34 representing the largest demographic segment. Passengers identified real-time location monitoring, operator verification systems and journey-sharing capabilities as features increasing confidence levels. Two-thirds of respondents believe these platforms reduce intoxicated driving by providing accessible transportation alternatives.
Lagos transportation official Oluwaseun Osiyemi praised the independent safety assessment as demonstrating a commitment to understanding consumer concerns and improving service quality across urban centers.
