Samsung’s Exynos chip could revolutionize satellite comms
Samsung plans to add a Neural Processing Unit to the 5G modem in future Exynos processors to enable better satellite communications. The AI-enhanced modem would track low-orbit satellites and optimize signal strength in real time. A Samsung semiconductor executive met with SpaceX to discuss the development of the technology, according to Hankyung.
Current processors cannot efficiently communicate with thousands of low-orbit satellites. The enhanced modem would predict satellite positions and automatically manage beam connections. Apple launched Emergency SOS via satellite with the iPhone 14, but Samsung has not offered a similar feature on Galaxy devices. Analysts believe Samsung wants to join the SpaceX supply network, though the company has not confirmed which processor will receive the upgrade first.
