ICARUS heads to consoles with major upgrades
RocketWerkz and GRIP Studios announced that ICARUS will arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X in the first quarter of 2026. The sci-fi co-op survival game from former DayZ lead Dean Hall launched on Steam in late 2021. Console players will receive a refined version of the game that includes the New Frontiers expansion and the Prometheus region. The expansion adds 64 square kilometers of terrain, three deadly biomes, mutated apex predators, and more than 30 workshop items.
GRIP Studios will handle console development following its partnership with RocketWerkz. Several GRIP team members previously worked with Hall on DayZ. The console version features controller-optimized menus and interfaces while maintaining PC gameplay mechanics. RocketWerkz may add controller support to the PC version based on improvements made for consoles.
Hall expressed interest in a potential Nintendo Switch 2 port but noted ICARUS requires substantial memory and processing resources. The team focused on performance optimization over 200 weekly updates. Console gamers will benefit from these refinements at launch.
The developer removed vehicles from ICARUS after they caused severe performance issues and terrain traversal problems. The team instead implemented a mount system with individual talent trees. A new mount called the Ibis will arrive in an upcoming expansion.
