South Korea chip exports to hit $165B in 2025
South Korean semiconductor shipments will surpass 165 billion dollars in 2025 as artificial intelligence applications drive demand for advanced chips. First Vice Industry Minister Moon Shin-hak announced the projection at a semiconductor industry event on Wednesday. The nation sold 119.7 billion dollars worth of chips between January and September, marking a 16.9 percent rise from the previous year.
Officials plan to strengthen the country’s memory chip market position while closing technological gaps in system semiconductors and fabless production. Korea Semiconductor Industry Association Chair Song Jai-hyuk described chips as a national strategic asset essential for artificial intelligence and quantum computing development. Stock markets rose late Wednesday morning as automotive and shipbuilding shares gained value.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index climbed 11.6 points to reach 3,835.44 after opening lower. Samsung Electronics fell 0.51 percent while SK hynix dropped 0.84 percent. Defense manufacturer Hanwha Aerospace added 4 percent and battery producer LG Energy Solution increased 2.86 percent. The won traded at 1,430.05 against the dollar at midmorning.
