Spotify patent reveals AI song mashup tech for users

Spotify holds a patent for technology that creates personalized song mashups by combining vocals from one track with instrumentals from another. The system analyzes musical compatibility through tempo matching, key alignment, and harmonic progression before automatically blending selected songs. Users maintain creative control by choosing base tracks and adjusting volume balances between vocal and instrumental elements through an interface slider.

The patent application was first filed in December 2019 and received approval in October 2022. A company representative stated the technology remains unrelated to recent announcements about developing artist-focused AI music products with major record labels. The filing represents one of hundreds of patent protections Spotify has secured, though implementation remains uncertain.
