Taj Hotels guest slams etiquette call, sparks row
The founder of YourStory said Taj Hotels should establish written guidelines for posture and attire after staff criticized her sitting position at a New Delhi restaurant. Shradha Sharma told reporters she cannot understand objections to her clothing, footwear or cross-legged seated position at the House of Ming establishment. The chief executive said management should specify acceptable behavior if standards exist, noting louder or more casual guests face no similar scrutiny.
Sharma visited the property with her sister for a Diwali meal when the manager questioned her traditional salwar kameez outfit and Kolhapuri sandals. She suggested a prominent figure would receive praise for similar choices rather than reproach. The entrepreneur asked what makes her seated position unsanitary and questioned why middle-class patrons face different treatment. Taj Hotels representatives did not respond to requests for comment on the matter.
