Anne Aliker named head of Africa regions at Standard Bank
Standard Bank Group has elevated Anne Aliker to lead corporate and investment banking operations spanning 20 African nations, making the Ugandan executive one of the continent’s most powerful financial figures. The Johannesburg-based institution, which holds more than $170 billion in total assets, announced its promotion on Thursday, October 30.
Aliker spent more than 20 years building expertise in investment banking and client relations at Standard Bank before assuming responsibility for business development and regional strategy across sub-Saharan Africa. Luvuyo Masinda, who heads the corporate division, said her track record of strategic accomplishments positions the bank to expand opportunities and strengthen customer relationships. She previously managed investment banking for international markets and directed coverage teams after running the Uganda unit.
Uganda now counts five professionals in senior Standard Bank posts, among them Anne Juuko, directing global markets for East Africa and Francis Karuhanga overseeing southern and western regions. Mumba Kalifungwa, chief executive of the Ugandan affiliate Stanbic Bank, called the appointment validation of local financial talent competing a continental scale. Forbes recently recognized the group as a top global employer for workplace culture and advancement of African leadership.
