Trashie launches mail-in textile recycling for rewards
Trashie operates a subscription service addressing American textile disposal challenges through mail-based collection of damaged clothing and household fabrics that conventional recycling systems reject. The company processes approximately 17 million metric tons of annual domestic textile waste through certified partners following Global Recycled Standard protocols, converting materials into industrial applications, including insulation, carpet padding, and regenerated yarn.
Chief executive Kristy Caylor established partnerships enabling damaged textiles to enter circular economy channels rather than landfills. Collection bags cost $20 for textiles and $25 for electronic devices, with customers earning TrashieCash points redeemable at participating retailers. Subscription plans reduce individual bag costs to $17 while providing discount percentages on recurring shipments.
North Carolina State University textile expert Andre West noted persistent growth in fast fashion waste generation alongside ongoing challenges in material sorting due to mixed fiber compositions and mislabeled garments requiring distinct processing approaches.
