UBA partners with Renewvia Solar on green energy project
United Bank for Africa installed solar power systems at 25 branches across five states through a partnership with Renewvia Solar Nigeria, which Norway’s ambassador opened on Tuesday at the Ikeja location. The renewable energy project receives backing from Nordic investors Empower New Energy and delivers 152,000 kilowatt-hours monthly while cutting carbon emissions by 89,000 kilograms.
The 10-year agreement will expand to 50 sites across 18 states, with 3 megawatts of solar capacity and 7 megawatt-hours of battery storage. Deputy Managing Director Muyiwa Akinyemi said the hybrid systems improve power reliability and customer service while supporting environmental goals across the bank’s operations.
Renewvia Managing Director Adebowale Dosunmu called the collaboration a milestone for commercial clean energy deployment in Nigeria. UBA Chairman Tony Elumelu promoted African investment opportunities at the Norway-Africa Business Summit in Oslo, where he emphasized partnerships over aid for continental development.
