UK backs digital literacy drive
Britain’s Digital Access Programme has joined forces with Blue Sapphire Hub to expand technology literacy among rural populations in northern Nigeria through influencer-led storytelling and community initiatives. The collaboration targets underserved areas where residents lack consistent digital access and the skills needed to participate in expanding online economic opportunities.
Officials, development partners and media representatives gathered in Abuja to establish strategies including the deployment of digital advocates promoting safe technology adoption, mentorship programs for local entrepreneurs, and policy frameworks integrating digital security into state development plans. Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain coordinator Mukhtar Abdu described mentorship as essential for guiding young people through technology adoption challenges.
A 12-part film series demonstrating practical technology applications premiered during discussions. Blue Sapphire Hub founder Maryam Lawan said the project has generated substantive dialogue about reducing digital access disparities across the region.
