V30 Accelerator Model hailed as key to rural transformation in Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe authorities are promoting an agricultural initiative designed to convert subsistence farming operations into formal commercial businesses across rural areas. The V30 Accelerator Model upgrades irrigation infrastructure with solar technology while providing business management instruction to participants who establish legally recognized village enterprises under corporate registration rules.
The Agricultural and Rural Development Authority program registers 460 irrigation systems spanning 26,000 hectares throughout eight provinces as entities governed by the Companies and Other Entities Act. Authority chief executive Tinotenda Mhiko said the restructuring creates stronger financial positions for participants and enables access to operational and investment funding. Farmers operate as seasonal employees and collect profit shares after harvest periods, which the Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development ministry said encourages community investment in local economic advancement.
The framework supports the Agriculture Food Systems and Rural Transformation Strategy 2, which seeks to reshape agricultural systems by 2030. Ministry permanent secretary Obert Jiri emphasized implementation requires partnership approaches beyond government-centered delivery, strengthened district organizations, transparent oversight, sustainable financing mechanisms and programs designed to include women, youth and vulnerable populations.
