Warner Music and Udio settle lawsuit, launch AI platform
Warner Music Group has resolved its copyright dispute with AI music platform Udio through a settlement that includes licensing arrangements for a supervised music creation service scheduled to debut in 2026. The agreement covers both recorded music and publishing operations while establishing revenue channels for artists and songwriters whose material will be used in the authorized system.
Udio plans to transform its subscription model by offering remix capabilities, cover versions and original compositions using voices and works from participating musicians who will receive attribution and compensation. The platform will maintain its existing closed system during the transition period before launching fully licensed applications.
Robert Kyncl, who leads Warner Music Group, stated the company remains dedicated to protecting creator rights while exploring commercial applications for artificial intelligence technology. The resolution follows similar arrangements between Udio and Universal Music Group as major labels pursue legal action against competing platform Suno.
