Zimbabwe targets US$15.8 billion agriculture output by 2030
Zimbabwean agricultural output value is expected to grow 53 percent between now and the 2030/31 growing season. National planning documents project that the total sector worth will climb from $10.3 billion to $15.8 billion during this period. This expansion stems from increased production across multiple farming areas, including grains, fruits, fish, dairy, poultry and cattle herds.
Recent sector performance showed resilience despite weather challenges. Wheat cultivation expanded fivefold since 2019, while tobacco exports generated $1.4 billion last year. Dairy output rose 74 percent over eight years, reaching 115 million liters annually. These improvements followed earlier national development strategies that nearly doubled agricultural value from $5.2 billion in 2019.
The government’s new Agriculture Food Systems and Rural Transformation Strategy 2 outlines plans through 2030. Officials aim to transform Zimbabwe from a basic food basket into a comprehensive agro-industrial center producing feedstocks, biofuels and processed foods. Initial investments during 2025/26 will establish programs needed to achieve these long-term objectives while supporting national economic advancement goals.
