Adam Driver pitches new Star Wars film to Disney
Adam Driver pitched a Star Wars film to Disney that executives ultimately rejected. The actor proposed working with director Steven Soderbergh on a project focused on his character Ben Solo from the sequel trilogy. Driver confirmed he had discussions with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about returning to the franchise since 2021.
Soderbergh and writer Rebecca Blunt developed a treatment that Lucasfilm leadership approved. Screenwriter Scott Z. Burns then wrote a complete screenplay. Driver described the finished script as exceptional work. The project received support from Kennedy and other Lucasfilm executives before reaching Disney leadership.
Disney CEO Bob Iger and chairman Alan Bergman declined to greenlight the production. Their main concern was how the character survived events in The Rise of Skywalker. The proposed film carried the working title The Hunt for Ben Solo. Driver expressed disappointment but appreciation for the creative process.
Ryan Gosling will star in the next announced Star Wars theatrical release, titled Starfighter, with Shawn Levy directing.
