AMD promises continued support for old GPUs
AMD has clarified its stance on graphics card driver updates following widespread confusion among users. The chipmaker announced that Radeon RX 5000 and RX 6000 series cards will keep receiving full support for upcoming game titles, performance improvements, and security patches.
Recent concerns emerged when AMD released its Adrenalin 25.10.2 driver update, which mentioned moving older RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 architecture cards to a separate maintenance branch. The company initially issued vague statements about addressing market needs, which failed to resolve user worries about the potential abandonment of older hardware.
AMD explained its new approach splits driver development into two paths. Cards built with RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 technology will use a dedicated branch focused on reliability, while RDNA 3 and RDNA 4 models receive faster feature rollouts. The company stated this separation allows engineers to introduce innovations for newer architectures without disrupting the established performance of previous generations. AMD emphasized its long-term commitment to supporting all Radeon gamers across multiple hardware generations.
