Latham & Watkins promotes 40 associates to partner
Latham & Watkins elevated 40 lawyers to partner status and another 56 to counsel positions effective Jan. 1, nearly doubling the 24 partnership appointments from a year earlier. The firm previously moved 19 counsel members into partnership during March.
Three-quarters of the new partners work in American offices, with New York adding eight and Washington gaining six. London secured seven promotions while Paris, Milan and Frankfurt each received one. Mergers and acquisitions, along with private equity, led all practice areas with 12 appointments, followed by capital markets with five and banking with four. Women comprised 40 percent of the partnership class, down from 50 percent in the previous round.
The 56 counsel promotions span offices across Asia, Europe and America. London gained 10 council positions while New York added nine. Managing partner Rich Trobman said the promotions recognize lawyers who have driven firm growth and embody the values of teamwork and client service. Michelle Carpenter, who chairs the associates committee, noted the appointments reflect efforts to develop top legal talent.
