Apple keeps iPhone 17 cheap with $40 OLED
Apple maintained the $699 price for the iPhone 17 by reducing display costs by 42% compared to Pro models. The company pays approximately $40 per OLED panel for the base iPhone 17, while Pro and Pro Max screens cost between $60 and $70, according to UBI Research data cited by Chosun.
Samsung supplies 64.5 percent of iPhone 17 displays, totaling 57.3 million units, while LG provides 34.1 percent, totaling 30.3 million units. BOE accounts for just 1.4 percent of the market with 1.3 million panels. LG manufactures screens for the iPhone 17, iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
All iPhone 17 models feature ProMotion technology and identical peak brightness levels with HDR10 support. The Pro Max features a higher-resolution display than other variants. Analysts suggest thinner bezels on Pro models increase manufacturing complexity and costs.
