Baldoni $400M suit dumped after deadline
A federal judge has terminated Justin Baldoni’s $400 million lawsuit against Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds after the director failed to meet a court deadline for revising his complaint. U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman signed an order on Friday, October 31, officially closing the case when Baldoni and his Wayfarer Studios partners did not respond to an October 17 directive asking why final judgment should not be entered.
The court had previously rejected Baldoni’s complaint in June, determining his defamation accusations were without legal basis. Judge Liman found that remarks referenced in the lawsuit, drawn from Lively’s sexual harassment filing and subsequent reporting, fell under litigation and press protections. Baldoni launched his legal action in January 2025 as a response to allegations Lively made the previous month, when she accused him of harassment and workplace retaliation during production of their film It Ends With Us.
While this ruling dismisses the defamation and extortion claims, Baldoni may still challenge the decision through appeal after the court addresses Lively’s motion for attorney fee reimbursement. Her separate harassment lawsuit against Baldoni continues in Manhattan federal court.
