Dhaka and Chittagong stocks tumble on large-cap losses
Bangladesh’s stock exchanges fell on Monday as investors sold shares in major companies. The Dhaka Stock Exchange broad index dropped 40.1 points to close at 5,087, while trading volume declined 14.6 percent to 3.9 billion taka from 4.6 billion taka in the prior session.
Pharmaceutical stocks recorded the highest trading activity, accounting for 13.6 percent of total volume. Fuel and power companies lost 2.4 percent, while jute sector shares fell 2.2 percent, and paper industry stocks decreased 1.9 percent.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also closed lower. Among 397 traded securities, 259 declined while 77 advanced and 61 remained unchanged from the previous session.
